Do you sometimes feel the urge to leave your city, your job and everyday life behind and get out into the countryside? You long to go on a short hike through nature, to forget your stress and just breathe. We understand this very well and that's why we put this Collection together – to give you some ideas on how to escape quickly and easily into the German countryside.
We call these routes ‘City Escapes’ and they’re designed to help you get into fresh air in no time from your city centre by public transport. We’ve also made sure that you don't end up in your nearest park and instead take you to natural landscapes that are as untouched as possible.
Enjoy rustic forest paths, gentle hills, idyllic forest lakes and moors, as well as nature reserves. These areas are diverse biotopes for rare animal and plant species, despite their proximity to urban areas. You’ll also overlook city skylines from a distance. After two to four hours or adventuring, you return home refreshed.
In this Collection, you’ll find our ‘City Escapes’ suggestions from the largest cities in Baden-Württemberg. Whether Stuttgart, Karlsruhe, Freiburg, Mannheim or Ulm, each of these cities has great opportunities to get our into the countryside. Some hikes definitely require a bit of fitness, whilst others are more of a stroll. All of these Tours are an experience and special in their own way.
You don't need to bring much with you. A small snack is always a good idea, as well as a waterproof jacket or suncream. You may want to pack a swimsuit and towel if the route includes a lake. A bottle of Volvic in your backpack to stay refreshed is also a great idea. Whether mineral water or flavoured tea, Volvic has something for everyone and is the perfect companion for your next adventure. Let yourself be inspired and enjoy your personal time-out with Volvic on these ‘City Escapes’!

After the Rems river has fought its way through densely built-up areas between Schorndorf and Waiblingen, the valley becomes really quaint and romantic just before it flows into the Neckar. Look forward to a nice little hike along the river with no significant inclines.
You first travel from Stuttgart…

You can get really clammy here, maybe that's where the name comes from. The Ungeheuerklamm is an erosion gorge about 15 meters deep that was once created by water running off from the Kraichgau. The area around it is a nature reserve and is home to some rare animal and plant species. This round also…

There are several lakes in the Karlsruhe area that provide welcome refreshment in summer. However, it is difficult to combine two beautiful lakes in one hike and still be able to easily travel there and back using public transport. Here is one such tour. But plan at least half a day for it if you also…

In contrast to the Hardtwald in the north of Karlsruhe with its long, straight paths, the Oberwald, which is close to nature, is attractive in the south. Two small lakes and the only protected forest in the city area want to be discovered by you. Some narrow unpaved paths meander through the forest…

Everyone in Freiburg knows the Schlossberg. No wonder, from the city center you only have to look up and you can't miss this mountain. The Reißinsel is not a real island, as it is connected to the forest park in the south. But otherwise it is almost completely surrounded by the Rhine and the old arm of the Rhine Bellenkrappen. It's actually no exaggeration: On this circular hike you will pass ten lakes of different sizes. These are not bathing lakes, but still take swimwear with you if you do want to jump into the water.
