Do you sometimes feel the urge to leave your city, your job and everyday life behind and get out into the countryside? You long to go on a short hike through nature, to forget your stress and just breathe. We understand this very well and that's why we put this Collection together – to give you some ideas on how to escape quickly and easily into the German countryside.
We call these routes ‘City Escapes’ and they’re designed to help you get into fresh air in no time from your city centre by public transport. We’ve also made sure that you don't end up in your nearest park and instead take you to natural landscapes that are as untouched as possible.
Enjoy rustic forest paths, gentle hills, idyllic forest lakes and moors, as well as nature reserves. These areas are diverse biotopes for rare animal and plant species, despite their proximity to urban areas. You’ll also overlook city skylines from a distance. After two to four hours or adventuring, you return home refreshed.
In this Collection, you’ll find our ‘City Escapes’ suggestions from the largest cities in Saxony and Thuringia. Whether Cologne, Bonn, Düsseldorf, Dortmund, Essen, Aachen, Wuppertal, Bielefeld or Münster, each of these cities has great opportunities to get out into the countryside. Some hikes definitely require a bit of fitness, whilst others are more of a stroll. All of these Tours are an experience and special in their own way.
You don't need to bring much with you. A small snack is always a good idea, as well as a waterproof jacket or suncream. You may want to pack a swimsuit and towel if the route includes a lake. A bottle of Volvic in your backpack to stay refreshed is also a great idea. Whether mineral water or flavoured tea, Volvic has something for everyone and is the perfect companion for your next adventure. Let yourself be inspired and enjoy your personal time-out with Volvic on these ‘City Escapes’!
