Celebrate spring – colourful walks through Dutch tulip fields

Anyone who enjoys colourful scenes and cheerful walks will enjoy the five walks in this Collection. Each route takes you past unique Dutch tulip fields.

Tulip fields are found in many of theNetherlands’ regions. This Collection consists of five Tours across the country that take you through fields of flowers. You walk from Voorhout to Hillegom and around Noordwijk in South Holland, through the nature of Callantsoog and the polder gardens of Anna Paulowna in North Holland and along the vast fields in Groningen. The lengths of the routes range from about 6 to 16 kilometres (4 to 10 mi) and mostly follow well-worn paths, so there’s a suitable walk for every tulip lover.

This Collection is for you if you’d like to wander through tulip fields and typical Dutch landscapes. Around Callantsoog, you explore Het Zwanenwater, a beautiful nature reserve with many diverse birds.You’ll discover unique, old churches between the fields in Groningen, a treat for history buffs.

These nature spots and landscapes are wonderful throughout the year. However, if you want to see the tulips in full bloom and enjoy the best colours, come in spring. The landscapes are at their best between late March and early May. To make sure the fields are already blooming, check before you arrive as nature doesn’t adhere to strict timetables. A local tourist information office will be able to tell you if the tulips are flowering.

Some routes have plenty of places to eat and drink along the way, but sometimes you walk for miles through the fields without coming across anything. So, make sure you bring something to eat at one of the scenic picnic spots along the way.

All routes start near a car park, making them easy to reach. With a few exceptions, these starting points are also easy to reach by public transport, although the journey will take longer. Once you see the colourful sea of flowers, however, you soon forget about your travel time. Enjoy wonderful Holland and these cheerful, colourful hikes – have fun!
