After having travelled the length and breadth of Sicily ( komoot.com/collection/1914177 ), this Collection takes you on a discovery of the Sentiero Italia in Calabria.
Here, the landscapes are fascinating and varied, a continuous succession of rounded peaks, broadleaf forests, wide vistas and small perched villages. You get to know some of the region's landmarks, such as the Aspromonte and Pollino National Parks, the Regional Natural Park of Serre, Lake Ampollino, Lake Arvo and many others. Good food will not be lacking either; on the contrary, it’ll be the fuel that allows you to face each new stage with renewed energy.
The route starts in Reggio Calabria and ends in the charming town of Morano Calabro, one of the most beautiful villages in Italy. I’ve divided the itinerary into 28 stages, but you can plan it differently depending on your physical preparation and the time you have available.
Along the way you’ll have the chance to enjoy two unique experiences: travelling on board the Treno della Sila, a historic steam train dating back to the early 20th century, and walking along the bed of what was once Lake Costantino.
The stages don’t always end at a mountain hut or in a village where accommodation is available, so I strongly advise bringing a small tent. Before setting up camp, remember to check the regulations in the various protected areas. Take a supply of food with you, as well as plenty of water. It’s a good idea to wear sturdy boots and to pack warm layers, as well as waterproof clothing. Remember to take trekking poles with you, as they relieve your knees from the weight of your pack.
You can reach Reggio Calabria by train from Messina or by plane from major Italian cities. From Morano Calabro you can reach Cosenza or other areas of Calabria using the Ferrovie Calabro-Lucane ferroviedellacalabria.it bus service.
It only remains for me to wish you a good journey!

Today's stage is quite demanding, but it takes you to discover one of the wildest and most remote corners of the Aspromonte Natural Park. This stage can be defined as the cool-down of the previous one. The path leads you through woods and large clearings: it is a succession of wonderful plateaus. You are on the ridge that separates the Ionian coast from the Tyrrhenian coast. Before concluding the stage in Villaggio Zomaro, take a break…

Leave from Villaggio Zomaro and head towards Passo del Mercante. The first part of the stage is characterized by paved and white roads and paths, after which the track enters the deciduous forest. Today's stage is a journey through the history of this area. Leave from the center of Mongiana and reach the Fonderia Ferdinandea. Today's stage is quite short and allows you to rest your legs and body in view of the next excursions. The day begins with a steep climb below the summit of Monte Tiriolo, from which you can enjoy a beautiful panorama of the villages below, then continues with a light and flowing walk on the slopes overlooking…
