The German Cycling Network comprises 12 long-distance cycle routes, as well as the ‘German Unity Cycle Route. The German Cycling Network connects all the nation’s regions with each other, leading along existing long-distance cycle routes or signposted cycle networks. They’re selected in such a way that interesting start points and destinations of a cycle tour can be easily linked.

From the crashing waves of the North Sea and the fine sandy beaches of the Baltic Sea to wooded low mountain ranges and through wide river valleys to the majestic peaks of the Alps – hundreds of long-distance cycle routes in Germany allow you to experience natural landscapes and cities on your bike. The D-Routes connect all these routes with each other and thus create the German Cycling Network.

The routes are designed to make it easy to find sufficient accommodation along the way and so that you can access them at various points. In addition, there are good public transport connections, which make arrival and departure particularly comfortable and climate-friendly. You can easily start many of these routes in major cities.

D-Routes 1 to 6 run from west to east, D-Routes 7 to 12 from north to south. The routes are also linked to the Europe-wide Eurovelo network. This means you can take your bike on further journeys of discovery beyond Germany’s borders.

In this Collection, you’ll find the total distances of all D-Routes and also suggestions for how you might break up some of the journeys. Not only will you find inspiration, but you can also start planning the ideal cycling trip right away. Have fun on your journey through Germany!
