Lonely forests and rolling hills crisscrossed by an extensive network of forest roads. The Vienna Woods offer gravel bike lovers everything their heart desires, right next to the bustling Austrian capital Vienna. In this Collection, I present five Tours that are perfect for exploring on your gravel bike.

The Vienna Woods is a large contiguous forest area, bordered by the Danube in the north and the foothills of the Alps in the south. Once you enter the forest, you can find great viewpoints, well-maintained gravel trails, challenging climbs and exhilarating descents. Despite Austria's restrictive laws, many exciting routes off the main roads are open to cyclists thanks to the efforts of the local communities. Nevertheless, please always be aware of local rules before starting a Tour.

These varied Tours are spread across the entire Wienerwald area to help you find your own favourite corner. They include absolute classics and highlights that every cyclist who rides here should know, such as the Kahlenberg and the Sophienalpe. But they also take you to lesser-known corners that invite you to explore. The routes here are relatively hilly and if you like challenging climbs, you're sure to find something here. The advantage of being close to the city is the great selection of huts and other refreshment stops along the routes.

The start and end points of all Tours are located at railway or underground stations to make your journey easier. You can take your bike with you on ÖBB regional trains (but don't forget your bike ticket) and on the underground all day at weekends and during the week between 9am and 3pm and after 6.30pm.

So, grab your bike and hit the gravel. The Vienna Woods await.
