Numerous new trails have been built around the state capital of Saarland, in Germany. Ranging in difficulty from blue to red to black, there’s now everything a mountain biker's heart desires.
Aside from the city-states of Berlin, Hamburg and Bremen, the Saarland is the smallest federal state in Germany. Still, due to its location and proximity to France, there’s not only a lot to discover in terms of landscape, there are also many culinary options to fortify yourself after or during Tours.
To get into the groove, I recommend the "Pur" in St Ingbert, just outside Saarbrücken. Around the most densely wooded town in the Saarland, you always have the option of a detour into the city, the "Pur" offers a lot for beginners and advanced cyclists. However, the almost 60-kilometre (37 mi) total length of this cross-country route should not be underestimated. A good level of fitness is required. That's why I recommend dividing it into a two-day Tour. With an e-bike, the route can also be completed in one day if you are fit enough.
After the "warm up" around St Ingbert with its relatively easy XC trails (cross country), on the third day, you’ll enjoy somewhat gnarlier enduro trails around Saarbrücken. Here, ’Angry Jens’, the ’Jungle Trail’ or ‘Rodeo Zimmel’ provide plenty of adrenaline. As the local mountain bike club ensure that these trails are not only officially built but also maintained, you can look forward to a real trail experience here.
In the rest of the Federal Republic, this approach generated a lot of good feedback, so the Saarland was almost considered a pioneer for other states. And what does that mean for you? You can let off steam on official routes and find them easily thanks to good signposting – and my Collection.
A great feature of these trails is that, at the official markers, you can support the local trail builders via a simple QR code. Now, I want to support you by introducing you to this sophisticated trail network. Let's shred Saarbrücken!
Plan your own version of this adventure in the multi-day planner based on the stages suggested in this Collection.
A little tip for the start: The car park in Sengscheid, which I chose as the starting point for this tour, is ideal as a starting point, as the tour is the easiest to reach from there. You can stay here overnight for little money if you divide the tour into two daily stages.

From Rohrbach it goes on good mobile paths and trails over fields and meadows and through the forest again and again. Most sections are well suited for beginners. If a spot is too difficult for you, there are almost always chickenways to be found.
Most jumps are preceded by warning signs so you can prepare…

The local mountain bike club has done a great job here. While the routes were difficult to find some time ago (and mostly not legal), the trail network is now well signposted and easy to find.
Not to mention the constant maintenance (and legality, of course). This ensures that you can easily find the…
