We love challenges that take us to the highest peaks. Mountains come in all shapes and sizes – just get out there and search for your own favourite. Believe it or not, you’ll find peaks in the Netherlands and Belgium too. These countries may be mostly flat, but even a small hill can give you a great sense of achievement. It all depends on your fitness, experience and other factors, like the weather.
Sometimes, it can seem like no mountain is high enough, whilst other days it’s enough to just get out into fresh air and exercise, even if you don’t reach the summit. This Collection has routes for both moods: we present two variations for each peak, so you can choose the one that suits you best. No matter which way you choose, we are #UnitedBySummits in the mountains.
This Collection of speed hikes has 12 Tours that take you to six summits: three in the Netherlands and three in Belgium. At each summit, you can choose between an easier and a more difficult route. Are you looking for a big challenge? Then you can also combine the two routes. With lengths between 8 and 20 kilometres (5 and 12 mi), they’re also suitable for a more leisurely hiking pace, you just need to allocate a little more time.
Our focus here is on speed hiking, a trend that occupies the middle ground between trail running and standard hiking. You run a medium-long to long distance over challenging, rocky and hilly terrain, and you do it fast. Pack only what you need in your small backpack and some poles.
To enjoy your speed hike to the full, you need quality shoes. We recommend our TERREX Skychaser 2.0. This hiking shoe is inspired by running shoes and designed with acceleration in mind. It moves beautifully over a variety of terrain types and the waterproof Gore-Tex membrane keeps your feet dry. The sole offers exceptional grip on rocky terrain and loose stones. So, lace up your shoes and get going, because with the TERREX Skychaser 2.0, you’ll go higher, faster, further!
If you are talking about the top of the Netherlands, then that is of course the Vaalserberg. Or to be precise: the three country point of the Netherlands, Belgium and Germany. And that is also the place where this speed hike starts, at an altitude of 322 meters.
We recommend that you first look around…

You start your speed hike at the edge of the Terletse Heide and National Gliding Center Terlet. From…
Looking for a speed hike with altimeters in one of the most beautiful places in the Netherlands? Then this Tour to Signaal Imbosch is for you.
On the Veluwe near the Posbank you will find the highest hill in Gelderland: Signal Imbosch of 110 meters high. As the highest point, it used to be an official…
A Tour of 12 kilometers doesn't sound that long at all, but it can still be quite challenging. This is the case in the Schoorl dunes, because - not entirely surprisingly - the subsoil there mainly consists of sand. Whether you can speed hike this entire route depends on your condition. But you know…
The highest peaks in the Netherlands are not all on the inland hills. You can also make altimeters on the coast and then best in the Schoorl dunes.
This speed hike starts and ends at the famous climbing dune on the edge of Schoorl. Especially if you want to challenge yourself a little further after the…
When it comes to the tops of the Netherlands and Belgium, the highest point of Belgium should of course not be missed. With an altitude of 694 meters, that is the Signal de Botrange. Around this point you can make a great speed hike, which mainly runs on boardwalks. This allows you to make good pace…
The Signal de Botrange is the highest point in Belgium and therefore deserves a place in the Collection of speed hikes to the tops of the Netherlands and Belgium. You start your Tour practically next to that point at an altitude of 694 meters. That means that you first walk to a lower altitude, to finally…
On to the Kemmelberg, with a height of 156 meters, the highest point in the province of West Flanders. You start your speed hike in Kemmel. If you want, you can first visit the visitor center of the Kemmelberg. It is located in the old presbytery, opposite the church of Kemmel.
You leave the village on…
During this almost 17 kilometer long speed hike you make a large loop through the hinterland of the Kemmelberg. This allows you to make a good pace for a good number of kilometers, without having to stop for a Highlight. We do, however, advise you to stop at the special Kasteel de Warande at the start…
Ready for a not too strenuous speed hike through perhaps the most beautiful part of the Flemish Ardennes? On to the Koppenberg!
A special highlight on the route is the Kortekeer, known from the cycling classic the Tour of Flanders. With a maximum gradient of 17.1%, you know that you are not in a flat…
The Koppenberg is also called the Bult van Melden and is located near Melden, which is also called Oudenaarde. With a height of 79 meters, this is not a huge mountain, but it is a beautiful environment for an interesting speed hike.
We start this Tour in Nukerke. The first highlight you will encounter…
