Your heart beats fast, you hear your breath, you can see the summit cross high above you. The view gets better and better as you climb, encouraging you to pick up speed.

Sound familiar? If you’ve now got the urge to approach mountains with pace, Switzerland is a great destination for speed hiking. About 20 percent of the Alps lie in this small country so you’ll find plenty of peaks to conquer. In this Collection, we’ve put together a selection of eight mountains with great views for your next speed hike.

The eight mountains are diverse: from the Appenzell Alps to Lake Lugano and from the Jura to Davos. You’ll stand at 912 metres (2,992 ft) on Monte San or feel the wind at 3,146 metres (10,312 ft) on the Flüela Schwarzhorn.

For each mountain, we’ve included one challenging route and one that’s easier so that both novice and expert speed hikers will find inspiration. This way, you can decide what you feel comfortable with depending on your fitness or mood on the day. If you prefer to climb peaks at a leisurely pace, the Tours are also ideal as day hikes. No matter how you master the elevation gain, we all enjoy the same view at the summit. A sweaty ascent unites us, no matter your speed. We’re #UnitedBySummits!

If you’ve never tried speed hiking before, it’s an effective way of training your endurance and an interesting alternative to traditional hiking. You strengthen your muscles and get your heart pumping at the same time.

In terms of gear, pack only your essentials in a lightweight backpack. Take light poles for support and wear ultra-light running shoes. Our adidas TERREX Skychaser Tech Mid Gore-Tex shoes are perfect for speed hiking trips. They’re lightweight, give you the necessary support in mountainous terrain and keep your feet nice and dry. You’ll be comfortable, fast and mobile.

You can reach all the hikes presented here by public transport. At the start of each hike, you’ll always find places where you can stock up on provisions. It’s worth packing a few extra muesli bars in case you need a quick energy boost when the next mountain hut is still far away.

Ready to get going? We wish you lots of fun and unforgettable views earned under your own steam. You can already look forward to the blissful feeling of reaching the summit.

The 1,483 meter high Dent de Vaulion is clearly visible in the history of its origin: while the slopes rise only gently to the south, rock faces of up to 200 meters high rise up in the north. The mountain was formed in the Jurassic period, when the Jura mountains, among other things, piled up as a result

A tightrope walk, like something out of a picture book: you follow the path over the Brienzergrat, climb the 2,136 meter high Augstmatthorn, see Lake Brienz shining in the valley - what more do you need (apart from the sun on your face)? The starting point of the 20-kilometer tour is the mountain station

The ascent to the 3,135 meter high Gornergrat is a popular excursion destination - after all, the view from the summit is simply magnificent. It is therefore worth starting this round early. If only because the view of the Matterhorn from the Riffelsee is even more beautiful at daybreak. It starts at

The Schnebelhorn, at 1,291 meters, is the highest peak in the canton of Zurich. If you turn in a circle on the summit, you have a fantastic all-round view: You look over the Zurich Oberland, Lake Zurich, to the Bernese Alps, to Appenzellerland, the Allgäu, over Lake Constance to the Jura arc.
