The Pueblos Negros (Black Towns), Arquitectura Negra, the Sierra Norte de Guadalajara – these are different names for this little piece of the La Mancha mountain range, made up of mountains that are neither the best known in Spain, nor the highest. However, they have a mysterious attraction and a captivating beauty that makes them very special.
Savin forests that disappear into the horizon, dense pine and oak woodlands, streams that form impressive waterfalls, challenging peaks that offer panoramic views straight out of a fairy tale, slate villages camouflaged in the mountain slopes and valleys – this is a taste of what the GR 60 has to offer.
This Collection is aimed at anyone with some mountain experience and an average level of fitness. The route is made up of continuous ascents and descents with gradients of more than 20%, the result of the rugged terrain of this impressive mountain range.
Along this route, you pass through different towns and villages where you can find food and lodging. However, it is recommended that you carry enough provisions for the day's walk. While you’ll encounter a large number of springs and streams, it’s best not to drink from them as the water is not treated. Depending on the time of year, it’s advisable to add a hat, sunscreen and waterproofs to your rucksack – in the mountains you should always take precautions!
This route can be done in all seasons. However, summer is more popular due to the pleasant temperatures. The scenery in autumn and spring has a special charm, full of colours that bring nature to its maximum splendour. Winter, on the other hand, tends to be very quiet, as the days are much shorter, with freezing temperatures and even heavy snowfalls.
It’s advisable to wear suitable footwear, as you may come across some streams and slippery stones along the way. In addition, there are stretches of loose stones and sections where the path is covered by vegetation. Trekking poles can be a great help.
There’s the possibility of using public transport by contacting +34 638750263 before 14:00 on the day before hiking. This bus only operates on request due to the low demand in the area and costs €10 each way. On Mondays and Fridays, it runs from Majaelrayo to Guadalajara at 8:00 and returns at 17:00. And on Tuesdays, it runs from Valverde de los Arroyos to Guadalajara at 8:00 and returns at 17:00.
It's time to plan your next adventure and make the most of the natural and architectural spectacle you are about to experience.
