As cosy as it is inside on cold winter days, at some point the urge to move becomes too much. Properly wrapped up, a walk in the fresh air is simply good for you, isn't it? In this Collection, we recommend seven hikes in the Rhine-Main region that are ideal outings for the whole family.
The trails offer lots of fun for young and old alike – perfect for a few active hours in a snowy winter wonderland. Best of all, you can easily reach all the start points by public transport. This means you can leave the car behind and save yourself the trouble of scraping off the windows. Instead, pack a sledge.
The hikes are all planned so that children will also have fun. From the wildlife park and the fairytale forest to the adventure trail – the hikes offer plenty of variety and interest for kids. Adults will also get their money's worth and can enjoy wonderful views, experience the tranquillity of nature and simply switch off.
All the routes can be reached by the buses and trains of the Rhein-Main-Verkehrsgesellschaft. Thanks to this, you can act on the spur of the moment, choosing whether you feel more like exploring the Taunus or the Odenwald at the drop of a hat.
It might also be worth checking the weather forecast in advance to see where there is more snow. Of course, a glittering winter forest will add the finishing touch to your trip. Beside, what child – or adult for that matter – doesn't love to make a snow angel or have a snowball fight?
The winter days are short, so it’s important to make the most of the sunlight hours and get active. A short hike with the family is a real treat during the holiday season. Along the routes, there are usually places to stop and warm up. On freezing cold days, we recommend taking an insulated flask with a hot beverage in your backpack.
So, treat yourself and your kids to something wholesome and enjoy the winter outdoors. The next hike is only a short train or bus ride away and with the RMVgo app you have the perfect planning companion with all the best timetable information: sites.rmv.de/en/rmvgo
