If you’re seeking silence, relaxation and a break from everyday life, and if you enjoy hiking through vast forests and remote landscapes, then the Forest Sea Trails in the Upper Palatinate Forest are for you.
In this Collection, we present nine day hikes that are characterised by calming nature and heavenly views above the treetops. The peaceful, meditative landscapes are grounding – listen to the wind in the treetops, breathe the fragrant forest air, and marvel at the changing play of light between the tree trunks.
The Forest Sea Trails take you deep into the vast landscapes. As well as its quiet forests, the Bavarian low mountain region is also characterised by water: dreamy ponds, sparkling lakes, and idyllic rivers are perfect for a break. You’ll hike along centuries-old paths in the Bavarian-Bohemian border area. These paths are remote, but you’ll still bump into other people at a vantage point, a chapel, a restaurant, or simply a particularly beautiful resting place – in the vastness of the forest, these places become meeting points with other hikers.
Listen to the murmur of the Muglbach Waterfall, experience the mystical atmosphere in magical valleys such as the Devil's Kitchen, and climb primal rocks in the Steinwald Nature Park. March on the Goldsteig through the Pfreimd valley, rest at idyllic castle ruins, or cross national borders. At the observation towers and platforms, you can let your gaze wander over the leafy canopy of the Upper Palatinate Forest.
