Six days, five huts, and two feet: On this adventure, you'll cross Europe's largest mountain range. And you'll do so — for the most part — on your own two feet. This classic hike along the long-distance hiking trail, the E5, takes you straight through the heart of the Alps. As you go, you'll hike past some of Europe's highest summits, in and out of valleys, and through some truly spectacular landscapes. Starting in Oberstdorf in Germany, the Tours in this Collection culminate in Meran in Italy's South Tyrol.
The best time to embark on this adventure is between July and September. At this time, the weather should be forgiving enough to ensure the hike will be an enjoyable one. And even though it'll be high season, you should still be able to find a room in which to rest your weary bones after a day on the trails. So — what's left? There's really no excuse not to go.
Plan your own version of this adventure in the multi-day planner based on the stages suggested in this Collection.
I went this tour 30 years ago. There was a bus from Oberstdorf to Spielmannsau. Until then you can also cycle because the slope is still very moderate. From the Spielmannsau the way then really nice. Marmots, silence, clear water are slowing down and are priceless. An absolute tip, this tour remains permanently in the head.
From here you continue with the Postbus to Bach - or with the E5 shared taxi to the Berggasthaus Hermine (if you are in a hurry, you can drive a bit further directly to the material cable car of the Memminger Hütte).

At the end of the day, the cable car takes us either to the Venetgipfelhütte or we get off at the middle station and spend the night in the Zamser Skihütte.

Absolutely brilliant tour via the Pitztaler Jöchl, but the Sölden ski area is an ugly, downright repulsive place.... in general, the entire Ötztal, unfortunately, "eaten up" by various lift systems. Was glad I had this area behind me

Hi! Can I walk the Ötztal Glacier Road to the beginning of this stage or is there a bus? VG
by Misha
From Vernagt you can take the bus to Merano in 1 ½ hours.
