You take your first, cautious step in the snow and you hear that familiar crunching sound. Whereas yesterday little snowflakes were dancing from the sky, today sunlight warms your face. Then, upon stepping out of the forest, you suddenly catch sight of the mighty Zugspitze, Germany’s highest mountain, glistening in glorious white.
Yes, this is what awaits when you put on your warm layers and go on a winter Tour in the Tyrolean Zugspitz Arena. The region is perfect for winter hiking fun and in this Collection we would like to introduce you to a few unforgettable routes.
Sometimes the paths run in the valley, along icy rivers. Sometimes you hike a little higher up. If you feel like it, you can strap on some sturdy snowshoes and if you don't want to venture out alone, you can book any one of the region’s experienced guides. Whatever you choose, all the trails have one thing in common: they are overlooked by the impressive Zugspitze and offer you a snow-covered landscape like something out of a picture book.
Here are a few tips to make your winter hiking adventures as enjoyable as possible. Firstly, dress in plenty of warm layers and we recommend waterproof winter footwear. Secondly, please do not leave the prepared and marked winter hiking trails, because the ‘off piste’ terrain can be particularly dangerous at this time of year. Before setting off, always note the current avalanche warning level and check the opening times of the huts. If an emergency should occur, dial 140 for the alpine emergency services.
If you want to go cross-country skiing in between, in the Tyrolean Zugspitz Arena, you’re in the right place. Just take a look at this Collection: komoot.com/collection/1816152.
