In winter, snow covers the breathtaking mountain scenery of the Austrian Alps like candyfloss. In the morning, the first rays of sun glisten on the frozen mountain lakes and dispel the last of the fog. If you want to get to know a side of Austria far from its popular ski resorts, we’ve put together several adventures away from the slopes.
Snow-covered forests, icy lakes and untouched landscapes: in this Collection, you’ll find everything from ice skating to snowshoeing to ice bathing in this dreamlike scenery.
Winter in Austria is so much more than ‘just’ skiing. Grab your toboggan and explore the toboggan runs in Vorarlberg – don’t miss the nighttime tobogganing. At Lake Weissensee, you can try your hand at one of the most traditional sports in the country: curling. You can also jump in a freezing ice bath at Zauchensee lake – the water’s only a few degrees.
Create your own magical moments in wintry Austria. You’ll find the right winter hikes and snowshoe Tours in this Collection. So let's go!

Ice cold, but so good for body and soul: You can take a dip in frozen waters in several Austrian lakes. One of them is the Zauchensee.
If you have not yet practiced ice bathing, then you should start training in the fall and slowly approach it, so that you can then climb into the water, which is only a few degrees cold, in winter.
At the Zauchensee there is also a workshop called "Bergsee.Schwimmen" and then ice swimming together. You can find information about this at: altenmarkt-zauchensee.at/de/winter-momente/bergsee-schwimmen.html .

With the whole family you can go ice stock sporting on the frozen Weissensee in winter. Even as a beginner, you can try out the popular winter sport on the natural ice curling rink at the Tschatscheleria on Lake Weissensee. This can be combined with a fantastic winter hike along the lake shore.
You can find more information about curling at Weissensee at weissensee.com/de/Winter-World/Ice-World/Eisstockschiessen.
