Long golden sandy beaches, turquoise waters, hidden coves between rocks and plants, mysterious islands, exquisite food, wonderful people, medieval towns... There are endless reasons to cycle along the Spanish Mediterranean coast.
EuroVelo is a network of long-distance cycling routes throughout Europe. The EuroVelo 8 runs about 7,500 kilometres (4,600 mi) from Cadiz to Cyprus along the Mediterranean coast. This Collection leads you along the section through Spain.
Much of the route is gentle, although at times the mountains test you. This route can be adapted to any level of fitness, whether you want to enjoy it with your family or if your goal is more demanding. Just adjust the kilometres of each stage to your needs.
Most bicycles are suitable for this adventure. Depending on the section you have in mind, you can even ride a road bike. Most of the way is asphalt or compacted earth, so a touring or gravel bike is ideal.
The route passes through coastal towns and villages, where you can stop along the way and refuel in the restaurants and beach bars. If you fancy a break from the hustle and bustle of the crowds and from life’s hectic pace, you can buy the necessary groceries and escape to a secluded and peaceful stretch of coastline.
The great thing about cycling along the coast is that you have the option of using public transport in almost every coastal town which gives you more flexibility to plan your adventure.
The starting point of this Collection is Cádiz, a city accessible by train and bus. As for the end of the adventure, Figueres train station is the closest station for the return journey home.
Let yourself be guided along the coast and discover all its secrets on a pleasant, romantic and unhurried cycle ride. The Mediterranean Sea is a jewel that we must respect and enjoy.
