Cologne is a particularly multifaceted city, even when it comes to nature. The 160-kilometre (100 mi) long-distance hiking trail ‘Kölnpfad’ (Cologne Trail) leads you over 11 stages around this beautiful city, roaming its green outskirts.
On the well-marked trail, you walk through idyllic parks, dense forests, across wide meadows and vibrant fields. The lakeland in the north, the Königsforst including the Wahner Heide reserve in the east and the Rhine meadows in the south are just some of the many highlights on this route. You can reach each stage by public transport, so you can also walk the trail in sections if you like. It's like a short holiday in the middle of the city!
