A summer in the mountains – isn't that what we all dream of? Mountain lakes as smooth as glass invite you to jump into their cool water, challenging ascents reward you with breathtaking views from a summit cross and rustic, small villages let you relax after an exciting day in the mountains. We equipped three teams and sent them off to explore the unique nature around Austria's hiking villages.

Under the theme ‘hiking moments’, this was the fourth year of The Hiking Summer of Your Life. For six weeks, our three teams went on a great adventure, following varied routes across the whole of Austria.

Ten regions, six weeks, three teams and countless big and small hiking moments. This Collection gives you a small insight into our teams’ experiences. Join Leonie and Lisa on an adrenaline-packed via ferrata up the Karhorn or experience the first warming rays of sunshine with Daniel and Anni on their sunrise Tour. Simeon and Nica also set off in the dark and experienced the transition from night to day above the clouds at Spiegelsee.

But of course, it's not only the big, breathtaking moments that make up a hiking summer, but also the small experiences, like jumping into the cool water on a hot summer day or the many culinary delights in mountain huts and alpine pastures. An encounter with fluffy marmots and finding blueberry bushes are also part of the adventure.

You can read all about what the three teams experienced in their travel diaries: wanderdoerfer.at/wandersommer-deines-lebens/#tagebuch. And who knows, maybe you’ll bump into them next summer in one of Austria's hiking villages.

At 4:00 a.m. it’s time for us to get out of bed and into the fresh Damüls mountain air. And then it is there: this peace and untouched nature. All you hear and see at this moment are the cows, relaxed and content, ready to be milked. Gradually everything around us awakens and the meadows full of wildflowers

We take the Uga Express up to the Elsenstube mountain inn. A generous breakfast buffet awaits us there, which is just the beginning of a long and enjoyable day. Today's hike is all about the topic: Delight.

After a hearty breakfast, we continue towards the first summit of today's tour: the Hochblanken

Today the time had come - a plan that had been made a long time ago was finally to be implemented: once on the Widderstein. This summit was highly recommended to us by several people in the last few days and Lisa had already seen the large Widderstein from Lake Constance and was in great Widderstein

"Across a narrow ridge to heaven" - this is how the tour of the Karhorn via ferrata can be described very well. The Karhorn via ferrata is an absolute highlight in Warth. Via the Wartherhorn saddle to the Karhorn summit you reach a total of 2,416 meters. A special feature of this via ferrata is certainly

Since our plans to hike up the large Rettenstein were not possible due to the uncertain weather conditions, we went to the Gerstinger Joch thanks to the tip of the Kitzbühel Alps Tourist Office. This tip was worth its weight in gold, as it turned out a little later at the foot of the mountain.

    We started

For today, due to the summer heat, we were looking for a more relaxed and watery hike. With such demands, there is probably no way around the fantastic 4-lake hike in Brixental. Our starting point for the tour is the Ehrenbachhöhe, which can be reached either on foot or with the Fleckalmbahn or Hahnenkammbahn

From the parking lot of the Griesenaualm you come to the Stripsenjochhaus between forest paths with roots and stone paths. The route always offers a beautiful view of the valley.

We made a sunrise tour of it and can only recommend it as the sunrise can be seen from start to finish along the route.

From the Westgipfelbahn, it first goes down a steep mountain. Then follows a narrow path along to the lake. The route is very pleasant to walk, as it is not uphill or downhill in one go, but rather very alternating. The hike is therefore suitable for every level of fitness. At the lake there are a few

We started from the Wallehenhütte at 4:20 a.m. First of all, a cow pasture is crossed from here, which then goes relatively quickly into a forest. But you can get out of this again quickly and continue to walk upwards over scree.

Arriving at a crossroads, you can take a little rest at two benches and

The small Almsee tour is for the whole family. The stream flows almost continuously next to you. This tour is therefore also perfect for hot summer days. Arrived at the Almsee, you can put your feet in the water and rest under a shady tree.

The tour is perfect for a beautiful sunrise in the mountains and that before work.

The mirror lake lives up to its name and the colors are gorgeous and picturesque, especially in the morning.

For us the most beautiful round that we have undertaken in Zauchensee.

It is not for nothing that this tour has been awarded the Austrian Hiking Seal of Approval. It's incredibly picturesque. For the first few meters we went over roots through the forest, where we first snacked on a few freshly picked blueberries.

The whole way through the forest was full of blueberries

We have an early start today. Where? To Lake Wolayer. We had heard a lot of good things about the lake and had seen some great tours on Komoot.

After we have parked our car at the Hubertus chapel, we first follow a forest road. At first it started comfortably, but soon the ascent gets steeper and steeper
