🇮🇹 Liparische Inseln + Sizilien Region Catania

Visit to the active volcanic island of Stromboli. At night, then with the ship to see the volcano out to sea, unfortunately today only smoke instead of (usually...) red lava could be seen.

In the capital of the Aeolian Islands, a city tour including a tour of the old citadel. In this city we are 5 nights in the hotel, also perfect for going out in the evening.

Visit to the volcanic island of Vulcano (the primordial rock of all volcanoes, gives its name to all volcanoes). The volcano is not active, but on the surrounding rim of the crater there is a lot of dangerous sulfuric fumes coming out of the fumaroles, clearly visible in the photos.

A small village tour on the Aeolian island of Salina. Arrival and departure by boat. Salt used to be taken from sea water on the island, hence the name of the island of Salina.

The only road 300 m long leads from the harbor to the helipad. The rest are all only (steep) paths, means of transport is the donkey. The few restaurants were all still closed, the season hasn't started yet in mid-May... (??).

We are now a week in Sicily and on the Aeolian Islands.

Taormina is the most beautiful ancient city of Sicily, founded by the Greeks and Romans. With a large amphitheater from the old days.

Extremely touristy with masses of people, so seen a bit ambivalent, but otherwise very nice with the many old buildings and the charm.

Boat trip and small tour on the Aeolian island of Panarea, which is considered a VIP island, so the level and prices are a bit higher (but still nice...).
