After a secret hiking adventure in the middle of Germany? In the Hümmling Nature Park, quiet trails are easy to find and the area delights with its diverse natural landscape of rolling hills, meandering streams and species-rich meadows. The nature park is located on a ridge in north-western Lower Saxony and was inhabited as far back as the Neolithic Age.

Numerous witnesses from five millennia of settlement history await you here: there are the impressive megalithic tombs or burial mounds, sometimes in large numbers, or the lovingly restored historic mills from the last centuries, which have reopened to the public. Everywhere you go, you’ll be warmly welcomed and pampered, for the people here are particularly friendly.

In this Collection, we’ve put together eight hikes that immerse you in the history of the region and take you to remote natural areas. On your Tours, you’re never far away from river, and can cool your feet at any time and when the heath blossoms in late summer, the landscape is covered with a bright purple carpet. No special equipment is required, but you should pack food and drink because there are plenty of great places to pause.

The Hümmling Nature Park is wonderfully remote and you’ll often find yourself alone but this also means that the starting points are rarely connected by public transport so plan your journey well or take the car. An impressive landscape mix of forest, open fields and heather awaits you southeast of Börger. It's best to take a look at the weather map before you start. Has it rained a lot or will it rain? Then note that the stepping stones over the Ohe may be flooded and it will be difficult to cross.

This wonderful circular hike is, so to speak, the little sister of the “Great Prehistoric Path” in the Hümmling Nature Park (komoot.de/tour/465313456). Over a length of about 16 kilometers, it also leads you past many of the legendary large stone graves of a culture long past. It follows the course of
