The first thing that comes to mind when you think of the province of Alicante is the Costa Blanca with its crystal clear beaches, sunshine and Mediterranean cuisine. However, this province is actually one of the most mountainous in Spain, with more than 40 peaks over 1,000 metres (3,280 ft) high.

More and more cyclists come to the region to prepare for the season thanks to its pleasant temperatures. Many of the passes have featured in the La Vuelta race. However, bear in mind that you might come across snow on the mountain passes in winter.

As most tourism centres around the coast, the provincial roads inland are calm – ideal for cycling.

This Collection has three types of passes: the Tudons pass is rated first-class, whilst the Confridges and coll de Rates pass are second and third class respectively.

You can adapt the routes to your level; they all vary in distance and cover several passes. If you’re just starting out in the world of cycling, you may want to stop off in the villages en route for a break. Many of them have beautiful views over the mountains or the Costa Blanca.

Alicante is great for cycling in every season. However, the summer months can be very hot, especially in the midday sun.

The routes are circular and each one starts in a different town. Most have train stations and all have bus stops. You can also easily come by car as parking is available near the start of every route.

Whether you live in Alicante or are just passing through, discovering the heart of the region on a road bike will get your adrenaline pumping.
