Reached our destination for a week yesterday. Patterdale in the Lake District - Cumbria in the North of England. Today 11th June our first walk along the River Grisedale Beck which flows past our cottage and then flows into Lake Ullswater.
This walk already contains some more altimeters. Place Fell is very popular with walkers. Every year tens of thousands hike to this summit at 657 meters altitude.
Get recommendations on the best single tracks, peaks, & plenty of other exciting outdoor places.
This walk starts with a boat trip with the Ullswater Steamers from Glenridding to Howtown. No more steamboats. They have been boats on diesel engines for quite some time, but the name has remained. For the walk we chose the higher route that took us over the Beda Fell (509 meters).
This hike had to be our biggest challenge. And it was. But glad we did. Helvellyn is the third highest mountain in England at 950 metres. The hardest part was the ridges before and after (Swirral Edge and Striding Edge).
Here I had not taken into account the fact that Komoot cannot combine different activities in a recording. We had cycled from Patterdale to Aira Force to take a walk along the falls. Then back to Patterdale by bike. Resulting strange numbers but a pleasant bike ride and walk.
The hike to the top of the Cautley Spout waterfall (the highest waterfall in England) was great fun. And the sun was also present.
Great Asby Scar is an upland area between the villages of Orton and Great Asby, famous for the 'limestone' (limestones) on the surface. Bare pieces of rock left behind after the last ice age. Limestone is slightly soluble in rainwater, leading to a pattern of blocks known as "clints" separated by cracks…
A walk from Sedbergh along the River Rawthey.
