Welcome to N'fndland😁😊😁
Welcome to St. John's 🇨🇦
My vacation takes me to the easternmost province of Canada, to "the Rock" - barren like the Scottish highlands, but friendly like a big family 😻😊😻
In order to know what to expect here, I took a tour of the city because my travel companion had already…

The weather was great this Friday, so I went for a walk with Sabine from the Bannerman Brewery to the Cabot Tower on Signal Hill in the evening. As a real hiker, of course, via the North Head Trail...😁😎
We walked over hill and dale, up and down stairs, around the bush, i.e. up the rock, and arrived…

After Komoot swallowed all my pictures, I had to re-upload them now, a day later. So the report is already a day old 😉
This morning it was already apparent: the weather change 😳! We did everything right yesterday with the sunset hike, because today the clouds were hanging over St. John's, rain had been…

Sunday afternoon!☀️
What do you do in Germany? family or museum. Family isn't here in St. John's, so museum!🏦
As we found out, absolutely worthwhile. The Rooms, a local history and natural history museum dedicated exclusively to Newfoundland history, is open, honest and yet loving in impressive architecture…

Monday morning - my first day on the East Coast Trail😻😻😻
A guided tour on Saturday was cancelled, I was plagued by a small (!) cold, the weather had become more unsettled, so I decided to start with an easy section. Actually I wanted to combine two tours, the Beaches Path from Witless Bay to Mobile…

After two days of continuous rain 🌧️☔🌧️ with the accompanying slight cold for both of us, we decided today, Wednesday, to reserve a lunch table in our friend's café in the botanical garden of the Memorial University of Newfoundland. The food was excellent, but the digestive walk through the grounds…

After a long day in Bonavista, Friday is another section of the East Coast Trail. Sabine wanted to go to the Ferryland Lighthouse, so we combined that. She dropped me off at the entrance to the Caplin Bay Path, toured the area a bit and we met back up at Ferryland.
The trail begins less spectacularly…

June? icebergs? hmm
whales? Definitely, you hear it everywhere!
puffins? Flying around the ears...
But where is best? Best at sea. So get on the boat and trust your luck.
We decided on a small company in Mobile (there is a huge selection of boat tour operators along the coast, with music, without music…

After our boat tour we stayed a little longer at the Cape Spear Lighthouse. But it was a bit crowded. However, I would have loved to hike the Cape Spear Lighthouse Path, it looked very nice😉
I'll post the pictures unfiltered, they speak for themselves...
And the high cut comes because I only finished…

Newfoundland is a land of storytellers. And so there is the whale story for my last hike today:
I, the great whale of the Atlantic, woke up early this morning and heard the silent weeping of this German woman. She had never seen any wild animals on her vacation in our wonderful Newfoundland. Also today…

It's Thursday - the first week in Newfoundland was already over! After a week of acclimatization and first attempts at hiking in really mixed weather, it was about time that I expanded the radius🤣
I was drawn to the northern part of the Avalon Peninsula, hoping to finally meet whales, icebergs or at…
