Do you consider yourself a mountain lover? Are you passionate about running up the highest peaks, listening to the sounds of nature and being surrounded by the breathtaking scenery?

If so, then I present to you the most popular mountain races in Spain in their three modalities. The routes in this Collection are inspired by the most important races in the country, so they are perfect for training on. You can also enjoy the routes on your own, alone or with friends, without any races looming.

The number of participants in mountain races is multiplying year after year. Trail running has become a way to escape city noise and connect with nature, enjoying the landscape through trails and goat tracks. Speed takes a back seat to endurance; you can take your time and enjoy the landscapes.

The routes are very varied and range from the mere 13 kilometres (8 mi) of the Puig Campana route to the 117 kilometres (73 mi) of the Sierra Nevada. Whether you’re a beginner or an advanced runner, you’ll be able to adapt the routes to your level. If it’s your first mountain race, you can even walk before running to familiarise yourself with the route. The routes are ordered from the lowest to the highest cumulative elevation gain.

Each route offers you the opportunity to climb the highest peaks in Spain, surrounded by pure mountain scenery. Make sure you prepare your running pack with the basic equipment to enjoy the experience to the full. I recommend taking at least water, food, warm clothes for sudden changes in temperature, a cap, glasses and a mobile phone for the inevitable selfie.

Don't forget to check the weather forecast before setting off. If possible, avoid these routes in winter because of heavy snowfall, very low temperatures and poor visibility, which can easily disorientate you.

Lace up your trainers and get ready to explore the wonders hidden in Spain's highest peaks. Live and respect the mountains: they have a lot to offer.
