Slowly, the glitter of the stars above the peaks of the Carinthian Nockberge UNESCO Biosphere Park gives way and it begins to dawn. The sky first turns blue and then a thousand shades of yellow and orange announce the rising of the sun. You sit in the front row near the summit crosses and experience how the first rays move over the mountain peaks. Hiking at sunrise in the Nock Mountains is certainly one of the most spectacular experiences in the biosphere reserve.

So that you too can enjoy the rising of the sun across the dreamlike mountain scenery of the Nockberge, we have put together six different hikes that will take you to the most beautiful vantage points in the region. You will find a good mix of short, easy and long, challenging Tours. In addition, there is a circular hike around three mountain lakes because, amongst the peaks, the morning atmosphere is particularly magical heres.

For a successful hike at sunrise, we recommend that you pack a headlamp and a light but warm insulated jacket; it can still be quite fresh in the mountains in the morning. With a tasty picnic in your luggage and a thermos flask with warm tea, cocoa or coffee, your Tour will be a wonderful experience.

And if you have never done a sunrise hike before, we also have something for you. The Tour to the 2,308-metre (7,570 ft) high Falkert is also available as a guided hike with a biosphere park ranger. Together with other hikers, you set off at dawn and reach the summit as the first rays of sun touch the mountains. The whole thing is accompanied by the lively chirping of birds, one or two marmot sightings and an original alpine dairyman's breakfast at the Falkertsee.

In the early morning it is very quiet around the Turrachsee. If you set off on this sunrise hike from there, you'll likely be one of the few hikers heading towards Rinsennock. The Turrachsee is also the destination of the hike.

You don't always have to stand on a peak to enjoy the magical morning atmosphere in the Nockberge Biosphere Park. Because in the early hours of the day the fog hangs over the mountain lakes and the soft splashing of the water on the shore and the first chirping of the birds are the only sounds that await

With a good 15 kilometers and a few hundred meters of altitude up and down, this hike to the 2,035 meter high Mirnock is quite a challenge.
