River cycle paths are very popular with cyclists. This Collection connects two rivers and leads from Miltenberg on the Main to Mosbach on the Neckar. The route is signposted throughout with yellow letters.

You might be wondering why I’ve split only 60 kilometres (37 mi) into two whole days when you can ride that in one day. Although you could do it in one day, you might miss some highlights along the way and if you want to do the Tour with children, you should definitely plan a snack break or two. There are many sections you can look forward to, such as the ‘Wanderbahn’, which offers a totally traffic-free ride.

On the first day, you'll climb 600 metres (2,000 ft) in altitude over a distance of 26 kilometres (16 mi), and the second part of the stage is particularly challenging. So it's better to plan a few breaks. On the other hand, the second day is very relaxed, mostly downhill and on the aforementioned hiking trail, a former railway line that takes you from Mudau to Mosbach without any road noise or traffic. This naturally tempts you to ride fast – but since you share the path with other cyclists and hikers, make sure you adjust your speed accordingly. Since there’s always solid ground under your tyres, any decent bike with good brakes and gears suitable for mountainous terrain will suffice. With a range of gears, the section between Amorbach and Mudau will be challenging, but doable.

I’ve set both the starting point and the destination at well-connected railway stations. You can get to Miltenberg by regional train, and Mosbach-Neckarelz station also has excellent connections. This means you can leave your car at home and take a relaxed train ride and connect the Main and Neckar rivers in the best way I can imagine: by bike!

A look at the altitude profile already tells you: There are a few kilometers more ahead of you than yesterday, but it is mainly downhill and only rarely slightly uphill. Enjoyment is the focus today and this stage offers you a lot!

And you are lucky that there is a "hiking train" from Mudau to Mosbach
