Actually, we thought it would be an easy hike with the only difficulty in catching the right time window. But then we had to scramble over a number of rocks, so I'm considering marking it as a mountain tour.

After pitching our tent, our stomachs began to rumble. So the idea was quickly born to return to Worm Head again, to see how the sea had reclaimed the island and then to have a drink in the pub.

A must when visiting Wales is the ancient and very impressive 12th century cathedral dedicated to the national saint, St David. The town of St. Davids is the smallest in Great Britain with 1800 inhabitants.

Typical English town and university town. Whether she had already run down like that when Prince Charles - Prince of Wales studied there 🤷🏼‍♂️

A quiet round in beautiful nature with many a surprise such as an old disused nuclear power plant.

The internet spoke of a waterfall. Above all, we remember the spoil from the slate mines and the historic steam train, which unexpectedly surprised us with a loud roar.

In a steady up and down, we went to nearby Cong to hike the sights there (see also separate tour)

Hike through the Mr. Guinness park with its great trees (including Sequoia). Cong Abbey and Ashford Castle were a bonus.

The fly fishermen were also out for salmon.

Just leave the car - but a lonely hike without oncoming traffic.

Due to the weather, it was only a short loop in the Connemara National Park instead of climbing Diamond Hill with its magnificent view as planned.

Times change. I can't remember any barriers or ticket booths 30 years ago. 15 years ago, the souvenir shop was enough to take money out of tourists' pockets.

Today they actually charge €15 just to get close to the Abbey. Well, given the bad weather, we were able to save the entrance fee with a clear conscience.

It is simply fantastic to be able to enjoy this landscape between sun, rain and wind in all silence and solitude.

The smell of the Atlantic, the bleating of the sheep, the hospitality in the café on the way - simply pure Ireland.
