On the Donau-Bodensee Cycle Route (Donau-Lake Constance Cycle Route), you cycle through the heart of Upper Swabia in southern Germany from north to south. From the Danube River, you cycle through the picturesque Alpine foothills, passing colourful fields, fragrant meadows, lush pastures, small woodlands, and romantic villages. To conclude your adventure, fruit, and hop orchards flank the road as you arrive at Lake Constance, a beautiful stretch of water backdropped by the Alps.
The 97-mile (156-km) long Donau-Bodensee Cycle Route connects the popular Danube cycle path and the beautiful Lake Constance cycle path. Awarded three stars by the ADFC, the route can be completed in four stages. Your adventure begins in the city of Ulm which is convenient to reach with regional and long-distance trains. You can also easily take a train or boat home at the end of your journey in Kressbronn.
Cycling from the Danube to Lake Constance doesn’t just offer beautiful landscapes. You will also stop off at various highlights such as wild swimming lakes that are perfect for a refreshing dip on a hot day, spas with relaxing thermal baths, and impressive baroque buildings. You can also indulge in Swabian cuisine and hospitality at the various restaurants and inns en route.
