Wer sich unter dem Uplandsteig einen tatsächlichen Steig wie z. B. den Rheinsteig vorstellt, wird tief enttäuscht sein, denn auf der ganzen Runde gibt es keine nur fußbreiten Trails an steilen Felshängen. Vielmehr punktet der gesamte Weg mit herrlichen Aussichten über das hessische Upland und das weitere Sauerland. Das Anhängsel "Steig" mag sich auf das häufige Auf und Ab beziehen, und tatsächlich können die Auf- und Abstiege schon einmal richtig knackig sein.
Im Original wird der 66 Kilometer lange Rundweg mit drei Etappen beschrieben. - gut zu schaffen für geübte Wanderer, jedoch viel zu schnell für einen Weg, der - außer an Start und Ziel in Willingen - nur wenige Kleinstdörfer streift, auf seiner ganzen Länge lediglich fünf Mal eine Kreis- bzw. Landstraße überquert und ansonsten durch wunderschöne Landschaften mit sensationellen Aussichten führt.
Doch ganz egal ob in drei, vier, fünf oder noch mehr Etappen, für Liebhaber des Sauerlandes gehört der Uplandsteig unbedingt auf die To-do-Liste.
