The Hohe Tauern National Park in Austria has more than 300 peaks over 3,000 metres (9,850 ft). Stretching 1,856 kilometres² (1,153 mi²), the region is the largest protected area in the Alps: wild primeval landscapes and mountain farming culture exist side by side. The untouched Sulzbach valleys in the national park are two of the most spectacular highlights in the Wildkogel Arena. The valleys are uninhabited and, aside from a network of trails developed by the Alpine Club, they are undeveloped. This is the perfect region for cycling and hiking Tours.
You choose whether to hike up to alpine heights; the Tauern’s valleys are impressive, even if you skip the summits. You’ll enjoy the best panoramic views of the Hohe Tauern glacier world from the Wildkogel and the surrounding Kitzbühel Alps peaks in the north. No matter which direction you choose, you’ll stumble upon wonderful huts serving Pinzgau specialties, surrounded by breathtaking views.
So, pack your hiking boots and a bike lock and get to know this breathtaking region. Combining hiking and biking doesn’t mean dragging your E–MTB up a summit, it’s about biking through wonderful landscapes and climbing up to a cosy hut at the end of your Tour on foot.
Tip: Why not combine your bike and hike Tour with an overnight stay in a hut? You’ll find recommendations in the Tour descriptions.
