These three city hikes are perfect if you’re in the mood for culture, architecture and plenty of fun. You’ll explore the most beautiful places on foot, with plenty of time to visit museums, churches and exhibitions. The first city that comes to mind when you think of Austria, is, of course, magnificent Vienna which has endless highlights. We’ve put together a great itinerary that takes you to the most impressive spots in and around the 1st district.

However, in this Collection, we don’t only focus on the capital; Wels and St Pölten are two insider tips that also have a lot to offer. Both cities are a pleasant size and great for a relaxing day trip. You can walk past impressive house facades, especially from the Baroque period, through historic alleys and visit various museums. You can easily reach the starting points by public transport so you can start your hike in a relaxed way.

    Hiking Highlight

    Very nice garden between the castle and town houses. At the exit to the town square there is a handkerchief tree that blooms in May. Very large, white flowers!

    Albertina Modern

    Hiking Highlight

    Just a few minutes' walk from the main building, the ALBERTINA modern is the latest addition to Vienna's museum landscape and offers insights into the art world from 1945 to the present day. The historic building from 1865 has been extensively renovated true to the original and stands in exciting contrast to the contemporary program inside.

    The construction, which stands on a base area of 15 by 15 meters, reaches a total height including the antenna of 77 meters. Radio masts, a weather panorama camera, radio masts for various mobile phone operators and other antennas are attached to the roof.

    At a height of around 47 meters there is a viewing terrace that can be reached either with the panorama lift or via 280 steps.

    The Klangturm consists of 650 tons of steel and 1000 m² of glass.
