The town of Wernigerode inspires with its medieval alleys and beautiful historic half-timbered houses, as well as its immediate proximity to the fabulous Harz Mountains. Right in the middle of the ‘colourful city on the Harz’, is the Travel Charme Hotel Wernigerode. Thanks to its central location, it’s the perfect starting point for walks within the old town and hiking Tours in the nearby Harz Mountains.

In this Collection, we introduce you to four particularly scenic hikes. In addition to exploring the city, the fabulous Harz mountain forest plays a role too. Again and again, you'll see a peak in your field of vision: the 1,141-metre-high (3,740 ft) Brocken. On one of the Tours presented here, this legendary peak is even the destination. We also don't want to withhold the favourite Tour of our director Antje Märker: a short hike to the absolute must-sees in the south-east of the city.

After your hike, you can rest in the hotel's spa area. Yoga classes, guided meditations and soothing massages help you to completely relax and be present. The hotel restaurant takes care of your physical well-being, too — regional specialities and fine wines from the hotel's wine cellar leave nothing to be desired; there’s no better way to end your hiking day in Wernigerode.

Tours & Highlights

  1. Hotel Gothisches Haus

    Hiking Highlight

The Gothic House in Wernigerode awaits you with a rustic, modern flair and a top location on the historic market square. In this, one of the oldest and most beautiful half-timbered buildings in the city, you can embark on a journey through the centuries. Here in the four-star hotel, the Middle Ages meet the modern. Because not only the listed half-timbered facade of the hotel will enchant you, but also the interior design leaves nothing to be desired. Our individually designed rooms and suites revive medieval romance thanks to their special half-timbered style with floorboards and wooden beams. The bridal suite is especially recommended. The 34 square meter, half-timbered room with a romantic sleeping and living area takes you back to the Middle Ages. In addition, there is a balcony with a wonderful view of the historic market square with its colorful half-timbered houses.

You can indulge in culinary delights in our gourmet restaurant. The house has housed a restaurant for 150 years. And since 1481 the underground vault of the house served as a wine cellar. For your physical well-being, we offer you various types of spa treatments, soothing massages and a revitalizing sauna in our wellness area.

Finally, the origin of the "h" in the name should be explained. The additional letter probably crept in in the 19th century. Since then, the old half-timbered structure has undergone a number of conversions, renovations and modernizations, but only one thing has survived to this day: the letter "h" in the name.

The favorite tour of our director Antje Märker may seem quite short at just under six kilometers, but it has a few highlights to offer that invite you to linger. These include the Christianental animal park, a beautiful climb to the Agnesberg with a view of Wernigerode Castle, and a visit to the castle
