With 380–kilometre (236 mi) of cycle paths, Erlangen is one of the most bicycle–friendly cities in Germany. You can easily access the centre of this Huguenot city via fast bicycle lanes.
It’s not only Erlangen itself that’s a true cyclist’s El Dorado. The city is also a great basecamp for exploring the unique landscapes in the surrounding area on two wheels. Diverse nature reserves, the historic Franconian Knoblauchsland cultural landscape, the Regnitztal valley river paradise and, of course, the extensive forests and wide plateaus of Franconian Switzerland lie en route. If you’re more drawn to city life, the metropolitan Nuremberg region isn’t far away either.
Whether you like to ride a gravel, road or e-bike, this Collection includes varied Tours for every type of bike. Each route is designed as a circular so you don’t have to worry about travelling back to the start point. You set off from the Tourist Information Centre in Erlangen, a stone’s throw from the train station.
You can conveniently reach Erlangen with your bike on a regional train via Bamberg or Nuremberg. The large car park in Erlangen centre makes it easy to arrive by car too. We recommend arriving by public transport, not least so that you can try a freshly tapped Erlangen beer at one of the countless restaurants after your ride. You can't end a day on two wheels in the heart of Franconia any more ‘Franconian’ than this.
