In eastern Belgium, you'll find everything your cyclist's heart desires: castles, lakes, forests, and even a raised bog, as well as interesting museums documenting the diverse culture and interesting history of the region. A well-developed cycle path network means you can explore all the region has to offer comfortably on your bike.

In this Collection, we have put together seven varied cycling routes for you. As the rivers, streams and wooded hills of east Belgium are very popular among mountain bikers, we have also included two mountain bike trails. With distances varying from 20 to 40 miles (33 to 66 kilometers), the routes are fun for both beginners and experienced riders.

The Vennbahnradweg is the heart of cycling in eastern Belgium. This magnificent cycle path along a former railway line crosses the border with Germany and Luxembourg several times. In addition, you will find other excellent bike paths throughout the region. An abundance of bike-friendly hotels and various restaurants along the routes ensure you can enjoy a comfortable cycling holiday.

Five routes have been specially selected for leisure cyclists and guide you through stunning landscapes and the cultural diversity of eastern Belgium. These tours are between 20 and 33 miles (33 and 54 kilometers) long. Here, you can enjoy the region’s many rivers, such as the Warchenne and the Our, which slowly meander through the hilly landscape. You will pass vast meadows and dark forests as well as plenty of cultural and culinary treasures.

The Vennbahn is a former railway line connecting Germany, Belgium and Luxembourg. After the track lost importance, the tracks were dismantled and built a cross-country bike path. And that is really well done. You start today's stage on the Vennbahnradweg in Raeren. For a long time the place had lived on ceramics, which was given a respectable monument by the pottery museum in the castle. The bike path meanders through the German-Belgian border area in the Eifel. But even if you are currently in Germany, the former Vennbahn is part of the Belgian territory. On the way, you often meet witnesses of the former railway company, such as old locomotives. If you ever want to change the vehicle and cycle with the trolley through nature, you can do that in Kalterherberg: railbike.be.In the afternoon you will reach the Hohe Venn, a mysterious, unspoiled landscape and one of the last moors in Europe.Just before you reach the end of the stage with Waimes, you can turn onto the Vennquerbahn. Then you reach after a few minutes the Bütgenbacher lake, a very nice recreational area with swimming.

The Vennbahn is a former railway line between Germany, Belgium and Luxembourg. After decommissioning, she was rebuilt into a great bike path. You start your stage today in Waimes and ride comfortably on the bike path through the Ardennes. In Montenau you will learn all you need to know about the delicious ham in the ham smoker, which you can also taste.Sankt Vith is perfect for a rest. Right next to the track, in the former train station, you will find a very interesting and interactive museum on the history of the region. On your way lie many structures of the railway. Thanks to the many tunnels and viaducts, the railway was able to travel through the eastern Belgian low mountain range with only slight inclines. Of course you also benefit from this on the bike. In addition, many of the art buildings are also beautiful to look at.The last part leads you through the beautiful valley of the Our to Burg-Reuland. From the bike path you can already see how the castle ruins perched above the village as a proud landmark. Here ends the stage on the Vennbahnradweg.Back to the starting point of the Vennbahnradweg you come most easily with a shuttle service. Exact information can be found at vennbahn.eu/service/shuttle
