More than three decades after the fall of the Wall, the image of Berlin has changed completely. You can often only guess where the city was divided. But the memory remains alive – through contemporary witnesses, exhibitions, memorials and small, but very present signs in the cityscape.
From Berlin centre to the outer edges of the city, we take you in search of traces. You’ll hike sections of the 160-kilometre (100 mi) long Berlin Wall Trail, which often follows the former Zollweg or Kolonnenweg. You’ll discover former border crossings, remains of the Wall and many historical and interesting places. Plenty of nature is included too: in urban areas, you often walk through green corridors, city forests, parks and along riverside paths. We also take you off the Wall Trail, for example, along the Tegeler Fließ River to Hermsdorfer See Lake and we show you the enchanting former Federal Garden Show grounds in Britz.
We'll get you there too! You can catch the S-Bahn to comfortably reach all starting points and return to your destination. Leave your car behind and let us chauffeur you in a sustainable way.
Absurd ghost stations, former border crossings and a landmark walled in for a long time are just a few of the historical stops on this nearly seven-kilometer hike in the heart of Berlin. A cemetery destroyed by the Wall and Potsdamer Platz, which was completely redesigned from a wasteland, are also prominent…
This varied, approximately 15-kilometer hike starts in Potsdam-Babelsberg, a former weavers' colony, and takes you right on the outskirts to the UNESCO World Heritage Site "Park Babelsberg" with the beautiful landscape park and the magnificent Prussian buildings. Through the hunting lodge park, it goes…

In the northeast, the Berlin Wall enclosed the very contrasting districts of Märkisches Viertel with its multi-storey residential buildings and Lübars, the oldest village in Berlin, in which agriculture is still practiced. If you join a hike on the Tegeler Fliess, you will experience a day that is surprisingly…
The Teltow Canal was a restricted area on some sections and there were always dramatic scenes when people tried to escape across the water. Many steles and memorial stones on the shore remind us of this dark time. But at some of the long-forgotten places along the Berlin Wall, small biotopes have also…
This hike is only about five kilometers long - but it is so packed with history and the present that it becomes a day trip full of exciting and thought-provoking impressions. The hike begins gently: through an avenue of cherry trees - when it's in bloom it's just fantastic here - you first hike to a…
Lots of water, a large city forest, the coldest place in Berlin and one of the few surviving border towers await you on this 24-kilometer tour. Which, by the way, you can also easily cover by bike, because the Wall Trail is designed for both pedestrians and cyclists.
You start at the S-Bahn station Hennigsdorf…
On the southern city limits, the Wall Trail leads through long stretches of unspoilt countryside. In some places you can even still see the whip lamps that illuminated the border strip at night and in other areas orchards have been created in the meantime. Memorial steles keep providing information about…
Who doesn't know it or has never heard of it: The East Side Gallery is a piece of the Wall almost one and a half kilometers long that was painted by artists in 1990, restored in 2009 and finally placed under monument protection. You can lose yourself in each of the different motifs - whether it's the…
