In the very east of the Teutoburg Forest, a unique hiking region, Höxter, awaits you that has a special charm in spring. The „Exquisite Nature“ project leads you on newly created hiking trails through important habitats, combining nature conservation and relaxation. Discover bright green beech forests, blossoming fruit trees and sun-drenched heaths with the first warming rays of sunshine of the year. In this collection we have put together eleven springtime hikes to the most beautiful places in the district of Höxter.
On these beloved routes, you can experience the slowly awakening flora and fauna of the region in North Rhine-Westphalia. Along the way you can discover early blossoms such as primroses, daffodils and liverworts. In addition to the special nature that you roam through during the tours, there are also animals and insects to discover between Egge and Weser. Colorful butterflies dart amongst the sunny heaths around Willebadessen, whilst nimble swallowtails fly on the Desenberg, and patterned crested newts known as “water dragons” swim at Godelheim. The land’s calcareous soil is the perfect basis for diverse life to bloom.
The circular hikes in this Collection vary in length from a relaxed walk to a demanding day hike. It’s up to you to decide what you feel like. On many of the tours, you will find wooden landscape loungers at various vantage points. This is a great way to relax and enjoy the colourful nature in spring. On the Weser Skywalk, you can enjoy an exhilarating walk with a view of the river from up high. Since some paths can still be a bit muddy in spring, it's best to bring waterproof shoes.
Large sections of the hiking trails lead through parts of the Europe-wide nature reserve network "Natura 2000". On a total of 8,400 hectares, plants, animals and nature lovers have plenty of space away from any cities, industry and traffic. One thing is certain, there’s plenty of "exquisite nature" for you to discover here.
