Bike packed, your favourite people in tow – it’s a great idea to head to SalzburgerLand in Austria. The region boasts mountains, valleys and natural beauty. It’s the perfect location for extensive mountain biking trips – especially in the Grossarl Valley.
This 27-kilometre (16.7 mi) valley is a true mecca for sport fans. Cyclists can enjoy unforgettable two-wheeled adventures on the 21 marked bike routes, 160 kilometres (99 mi) of signposted trails and brand new singletrack. From challenging Tours with 1,000 metres (3,280 ft) of elevation gain to relaxed paths through the valley – there’s something for everyone.
Countless rustic alpine huts are another special feature in the Grossarl Valley. The 40 huts have given the valley its nickname: the valley of the Alms. You’ll pass one of the huts on each of the 11 Tours in this Collection. They are great places to enjoy locally produced delicacies in rustic, cosy parlours or on a sunny terrace. This is part of what makes a cycling holiday in SalzburgerLand so perfect.
By the way, you can easily combine biking and hiking on your holiday. On a Bike & Hike adventure, you can park your bike at one of the huts and climb the nearest peak. If you feel like venturing to the other side of the valley with your bike, the Grossarltal-Dorfgastein bike swing comfortably transports you ‘to the other side’ – the Gastein Valley.
The Grossarl Valley also has plenty of accommodation; from hotels to B&Bs, holiday apartments, rental homes, farm stays and much more. You’ll find a suitable place to stay. In this Collection, we mention a few places that are especially well-geared to bikers in more detail.
So: hop on your saddle, ready, go! We hope you have an unforgettable time in the wonderful Grossarl Valley.
