What we now call gravel bike has probably existed long before it got a name. Nonetheless, we’re incredibly grateful to those who developed and pushed the sport. It’s said that the inventors of this discipline explored gravel roads in the Midwest of the USA, riding the predecessors of modern gravel bikes. We’re sure that SalzburgerLand can contend with the roads that they cycled: Gravel bikes and SalzburgerLand are a perfect match. Here, you’ll find a huge network of well-maintained gravel roads that aren’t too steep, as well as numerous lakes and mountain pasture culture. It’s a paradise for gravel adventures.
In this Collection, we present Tours around the city of Salzburg and in the regions of Salzkammergut, Tennengau and the Salzburger Saalachtal. You also visit Bavaria. These Tours take you to the magnificent Osterhorn mountains, the Tennengebirge peaks and the Berchtesgarden Alps. The Tours range in length from 23 to an ambitious 111 kilometres (14 to 69 mi) and usually have a reasonable amount of elevation gain.
However, some Tours are also a bit gentler; ideal for cruising and enjoying the landscape. The routes have plenty of opportunities to cool off at an alpine pasture or inn: You won’t come back hungry from any Tour, I promise!
You can choose the city or the countryside as your base for adventuring. Salzburg offers a rich cultural programme whilst places like Fuschl, Abtenau or Lofer offer rural idyll, peace and quiet and varied outdoor pursuits. Two alpine pastures, two long climbs, many kilometers on gravel and fantastic views: the tour to the Genneralm and further to the Postalm is something like the parade gravel tour in Tennengau and certainly one of the most strenuous. Almost 65 kilometers and 1,800 meters of altitude difference have to…
This tour takes you to the natural jewel of the Seewaldsee, an alpine moor lake that is a nature reserve due to its special flora and fauna. The name of this tour is a statement: Grim Eight. Grim because you have to climb some steep climbs, but there are also some nice trails and spectacular views waiting for you.
