When hot summer heat is taking over Leipzig, when the air is standing still and the asphalt melting, there’s only one right thing to do: Grab your swimwear, hop on your bike and head out of the city, right into the cool, fresh water. Leipzig has more than enough lakes for everyone. Bring a friend, a frisbee and a watermelon to make it perfect. Here are the most popular lakes of our Leipzig users. They show you wonderful lakes in the middle of nature with crystal clear water, romantic wooded shores, beautiful sandy beaches and cosy sunbathing lawns, so you can easily surf the next heatwave.

During the reclamation, a recreational area with beach and landscaped park was created around the lake and opened at the Expo 2000 on June 1, 2000. The leisure activities are for sunbathing and swimming and u. a. Well-received by sailors, windsurfers, kitesurfers, inline skaters and cyclists, the Cospudener See has become a popular recreational area. In recent years, it has been averaged by about 450,000 people per season. In the course of the Leipzig Olympic bid for 2012 competitions in rowing, triathlon as well as beach volleyball and extensive other leisure activities were planned at Lake Cospuden.

The Zwenkauer See offers many hardly visited bathing spots. The water here is incredibly clear and you can definitely find a spot where you can relax. Behind the Zwenkau harbor you can ride your bike on a small trail really close to the water. But you have to be careful not to miss the turnoff back onto the cycle path. The Kulkwitzer See in western Leipzig is suitable for a wide variety of leisure activities. In summer, the Kulkwitzer See is a popular bathing destination, on the Miltitzer side there is a water ski facility.
Otherwise, the Kulki, as it is also called, is well suited for hikes and cyclists all year round. A lap around the lake is around 10 kilometers. If it is possible with the trekking bike in summer without problems, you should preferably take the mountain bike in winter, because on the Markranstädter side the forest trails become muddy.
It can be reached optimally from several directions. From the west directly from Markranstädt, from the east from Lausen-Grünau and Miltitz and from the south from the Plagwitz-Pörsten bike path. The connection by public transport is optimally realized by tram and bus (on the Leipzig side lines 1, 61, 161, 62, 65 and 66, on the Markranstadt side line 65).
Supermarkets are not far in Miltitz and Lausen, as well as Markranstaedt.

The Raßnitzer lake originated from a residual hole of the open pit mine. Where once brown coal was mined, today is a beautiful lake, on the banks of which nature is spreading more and more. Since this year, swimming at the lake is now also allowed. Buoys and signage will probably be installed in winter for the 2019 swimming season.

Beautiful beach on Lake Schladitzer, in the area Wolteritz. ideal place for a bike break at Lake Schladitzer. Water quality used to be good, shallow entry into the water. Good gravel and lots of space when more visitors come. With the bike you can fix a good job.

The Geiseltalsee is the largest artificial lake in Germany, which was fed from the water of the Saale. On a 28-kilometer trail you can cycle around the lake. On the way you can stop in two places to swim in the lake. The swimming areas are signposted, one of them is at the campsite Geiseltalsee-Camp, where you can spend the night, if you want to stay longer. You can experience a lot on the lake, because you can not only swim there and enjoy the wonderful nature, but also explore the underwater world while diving or get to know the lake from a different perspective while boating.

Here you can ride a bike and enjoy the view of the beautiful lake. At the lake and forest resort there are small bays and bathing jetties. If you feel like it, you can jump into the water on Gröberner See to refresh yourself.
