Gravel riding in the Copenhagen area has so much to offer. These routes are some of my most beloved local gravel rides.
After retiring from pro cycling at the end of 2020, exploring my local area on a gravel bike for the first time was exactly what I needed. I already knew every single paved road and mountain bike trail like the back of my hand, so a completely new world opened up when I started gravel riding.
This quickly led me to creating some gravel routes myself. Everything felt new and fresh again and I loved it! I hope you'll enjoy these routes as much as I have enjoyed putting them together and riding them.
The routes cover all sorts of gravel roads and terrain. North of Copenhagen you have all the big forests. West of Copenhagen there's mostly farmland gravel roads. Finally, on the Island of Amager you find gravel roads that wouldn't be rideable if it wasn't for the dams.
These routes are all within riding distance from Copenhagen. If you want to save the legs a bit though, it's super easy to jump on the S-train to Skovbrynet or Holte station and start from there.
This gravel tour takes you deep into the farmlands west of Copenhagen, with a good mix of singletrack paths and gravel roads.
A few stretches of tarmac in-between offers a bit of rest between the off-road sections.
Make sure to really take in the beautiful area near Veksø. Especially when spring kicks in, this is a treat.
This gravel tour takes you through a lot of the big forests of Northern Seeland.
I recommend doing this ride when you're up for a solid and adventurous ride.
The route has a bit of everything, but mostly a lot of forestry roads.
Take a break at the shores of lake Gurre and going for an ice-cream at Beier Chokolade. Enjoy!
Get recommendations on the best single tracks, peaks, & plenty of other exciting outdoor places.
Amager has a fascinating history. The island has been artificially made, thanks to the dams which have helped to drain the island and keep the water out.
Situated very close to the city of Copenhagen, this is the ultimate Copenhagen gravel ride.
This gravel tour takes you out west of Copenhagen.
You start off passing through Hareskoven Forest and then onto a mix of paths, tarmac and proper countryside gravel roads.
This route demands your full attention, and rewards with an adventurous ride. Enjoy!
This little treat of a gravel ride brings the weekend vibe to any evening of the week. Just long enough to make it count, but just short enough to squeeze in during the working week.
The route includes some of the best gravel segments just north of Copenhagen. The terrain varies from open fields to dense…
This route starts out in Holte near DaVinci cykler, the bike store I always use. If you need a sparetube, bike fixing, cup of coffee or fuel for your ride, this can be done before heading out.
Once you get going, you head into the first forest of the day, soon to be followed by paths along the shores…
