Imagine walking through the beautiful Walloon countryside, passing mysterious art works that blend so seamlessly with nature that you’re sometimes unsure whether these works were created by human artists or by nature itself. Along the way, you find charming villages with cosy inns and welcoming accommodation. You walk through living art, enjoying the traquility and seclusion of beautiful south Wallonia. Sounds dreamy, right? You can easily make this a reality on the art trails (sentiers d’art) in the Condroz–Famenne region. The network of charming hiking trails combines nature and art in a unique way.
The heart of the art trails is the main 140-kilometre (87 mi) circular hiking trail which is ideal for an extended multi–day adventure. On it, you discover almost 50 different works of art in the midst of nature. These very special pieces are made exclusively of natural materials, so they evolve independently over the years and remain ephemeral – biodegrading over time. Ciney, Hamois and Havelange villages also have impressive murals.
In addition to the long–distance trail and a two–day 50-kilometre (31 mi) Tour, we also present 12 shorter loops ranginging in length from 7 to 27 kilometres (4 to 17 mi|). Ideal for leisurely day hikes with the whole family, these shorter trails still reveal some of the art that makes the art trails so special.
So, what are you waiting for? Lace up your hiking boots and discover the nature, culture and irresistible charm of the Condroz–Famenne region.
