Rolling hills, lush meadows, vast beech and oak forests and plenty of peace and quiet – the Ardennes are a very special place on earth. This wooded plateau chracterises the Wallonia region in south-east Belgium. Hikers can get to know the nature in a relaxed way on the network of hiking trails. In this Collection, we show you five particularly beautiful walks around the municipality of Bastogne that are ideal for a day out with the whole family.
The name Ardennes comes from the Celtic word for highland – ‘Arduenna’. The undulating landscape forms the western end of the Rhineland Slate Mountains. These hikes barely have any metres of climbing, yet plenty of idyllic scenes. All Tours are circular and are suitable for children and prams too.

Before or after a day's walking, it’s definitely worth visiting the War Museum near the Mardasson Monument.
The walks are all fairly short. This gives you enough time to plan a picnic along the way. Alternatively, at the end of your walk, you can enjoy the local specialities in the centre of Bastogne – the perfect programme for a family day out. Take your time and discover the Ardennes at your own pace, relaxed and far from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.
