Snow crunches under your boots. You pause and listen – silence. The Flims forest, painted white by a thick blanket of snow, surrounds you, muffling any sound. Sunlight pours through the trees, illuminating the snow. You catch glimpses of impressive white mountains through the branches. Everyday life seems far away.

The region of Flims in Switzerland offers many varied and incredible winter hikes. In this Collection, we present 10 of these wonderful routes.

Do you like the idea of hiking along a ridge at 2,500 metres (8,202 ft) above sea level? At every turn, you stop and marvel at the breathtaking panorama. Hiking the deep Rhine Gorge, you experience first-hand why the area is known as the ‘Swiss Grand Canyon’ as you look out from the II Spir futuristic viewing platform.

The lantern trail between the municipalities of Falera and Laax is an amazing experience. At dusk, more than 300 small lanterns light up the path. Foodies will enjoy the guided ‘La senda dils gusts’ hike on which you get to try plenty of Graubünden’s delicious culinary specialties.

Sunny plateaus like the Bargis Valley and mountain meadows offer hikes with immense views. Cold mountain air chills your cheeks as you stand in awe of the panoramas. Dive into snow-covered forests, discover hidden lakes like Lake Cresta or Lake Cauma, and walk high above the treetops on the world’s longest treetop trail.

You’ll find refreshment stops to warm you up and replenish your energy on almost all of these hikes. Picnicking in this winter landscape is a wonderful experience. You don’t need any special equipment for these hikes. Warm clothing and non-slip, waterproof winter shoes are the only essentials to explore around Flims.
