Lush green landscapes and picturesque canal paths await you on the Oder-Havel Cycle Route. The Finow Canal flows like a blue ribbon in the Brandenburg countryside. You cycle along its banks for much of the route. It’s the oldest German waterway that’s still in operation. You find numerous historic locks, some of which are manually operated.
The Oder-Havel Cycle Path connects the Havel to the Oder rivers. On the 63-kilometre (39 mi) route, you pass through beautiful landscapes with dense forests and riverbanks alternating with industrial sites. On your adventure, you learn about the region’s 250-year industrial history. The Tour is flat throughout, making it easy to master even for beginners and children.
In this Collection, I’ve divided the route into two moderate daily stages for you and selected the nearest railway stations as starting and finishing points. So you can cycle the route as a weekend excursion and make an overnight stop in Eberswalde. The starting point is the train station in Nassenheide and you return from Bad Freienwalde via Eberswalde station. You can comfortably travel by train from Berlin, Oranienburg or Templin. Of course, there's nothing to stop you from completing the route in one go without a stopover.
On the way, you always have the opportunity to rest in idyllic beer gardens or have a picnic directly on the riverbank – wherever you prefer. You can stock up on provisions in Liebenwalde or Eberswalde so nothing stands in the way of a wonderful trip in the countryside.

The Oder-Havel cycle path starts in Liebenwalde at the small marina, where it branches off from the Havel cycle path. There is no train station in Liebenwalde - so I set the starting point of the stage at the nearest train station in Nassenheide. You can get there easily with the RB 12 from Berlin Ostkreuz…

It is only 32 kilometers from Eberswalde to the end of the Oder-Havel cycle path near Hohensaaten - so you can take it easy. The first few kilometers lead along the banks of the Finow Canal and you can enjoy picturesque water views.
The route partly leads through shady forests, but the canal is never…
