When the hot summer heat takes over Munich—when the air starts to stand still and the asphalt starts to melt—there’s only one thing to do: Grab your swimwear, hop on your bike and head out to the countryside, right into the cool, fresh water. Bring a friend and a frisbee for the perfect combination.
Here are the komoot community's favorite lakes around Munich. They take you outside the gates of the city to the most beautiful bathing spots in the middle of nature. Let yourself be enchanted by the wooded shores of the lakes, the clear water, the large sandy beaches and cozy sunbathing lawns—so you can easily surf the next heatwave.

Only 40 minutes from Munich main station lies the Pilsensee, which is quite idyllic compared to its two bigger brothers, the Ammersee and the Starnberger See.
On the beach you will be lovingly supplied by the adjacent kiosk with tarte flambée and pies.

The groundwater lake was created between 1937 and 1938 after the end of gravel quarrying on the site operated by the Reichsbahn. Today, the 11.1-hectare quarry pond, which has been completely redesigned as a recreation area, is a popular bathing lake. It is 12.5 m deep at its deepest point. There is also a beer garden on the north bank. A nice destination for a bike ride.

Not far from the regatta facility is the Regattaparksee with sunbathing areas in the northern and western parts. Here everyone will find a sunny or shady spot. The lake is 15 hectares in size and up to 15 meters deep. Good swimmers can venture to the bathing island in the middle of the lake. The shore is usually flat, which is ideal for families with children. For the safety of the many bathers on the summer weekends the DLRG Oberschleißheim, which has set up on the north shore in a lake hut provides. Right next to it there are drinks, snacks and ice cream at the kiosk.
