Cycle paths are wonderful places to ride your bike – you can cycle in complete peace of mind on colourful paths of all shapes and sizes. Sometimes they head in a straight line, zigzag between buildings, or lead you into the heart of nature.

Belgium’s bicycle network may not be as dense as the Netherlands, but it’s still large, especially in the north of the country. In the south, the landscapes are more hilly and there isn’t as much infrastructure for bicycles. However, there are many greenways called RAVeL, mainly built on towpaths and old railway lines.

In this Collection, I wanted to put together a list of remarkable cycle paths. Some include impressive open-air works of art, whilst others simply cross incredible landscapes. I propose 10 circulars that are between 24 and 84 kilometres (14.9 and 52 mi) long, with no more than 500 metres (1,640 ft) of climbing. These rides are ideal day trips to discover Belgium’s four corners by bike (or e-bike).

The start points of these Tours are almost all located within 5 kilometres (3.1 mi) of a train station.

The first three loops are located in the province of Limburg. Visit Limburg, the region’s tourist board, tasked architects with designing these routes. They are true architectural projects and quite breathtaking. Between poetry, design, architecture and nature, the best bike paths are those that blend in with their environment.

I wish you a happy adventure.

The “Fietsen door het water” cycle path (pedaling through water) was the first to be created in the Hoge Kempen National Park in 2016. It now has two little sisters, with an equally incredible look and which you will find in two other tours of this Collection: "Pedaler in the trees" (komoot.fr/tour/615883799)
