The Via Coriovallum is a multi-day hiking and pilgrimage route through the beautiful region of South Limburg in the Netherlands. With hills and valleys, the landscape is varied. Many streams babble between fields and through forests. You walk along different roads and paths, through sand, loess (loam) and, occasionally, mud.

This multi-day hike is the ideal practice Tour for pilgrims who want to walk to Santiago de Compostela or Rome. Test yourself, your backpack, your shoes and other equipment and work on your fitness. Over just under 100 kilometres (62 mi), you wander along pilgrim paths and ancient Roman roads. You can choose which routes you link together and which order or direction you walk. The route is divided into hikes that are just over 10 kilometres (6 mi) long each. They end near accommodation as well as bus stops or train stations.

On the Via Coriovallum, you experience everything you would expect to see on a hiking or pilgrimage journey to Santiago. Rolling hills, marl caves, picturesque villages, wayside crosses, chapels and babbling brooks. There’s even a real pilgrim's hostel and monastery where you can stay overnight with a pilgrim's passport.

You can order the Via Coriovallum pilgrim's passport (€ 5 each incl. postage) in advance here: viacoriovallum.nl/?page_id=510. Collect stamps at the stamping addresses along the route and benefit from discounts at several places en route when you show your passport.

Peter Schunck and Jan Lautenslager from the Via Coriovallum Foundation put together the Via Coriovallum with a lot of love and work. You will find more information about the route on their website – viacoriovallum.nl. Have you walked the Via Coriovallum and enjoyed it? Then help the foundation to keep the route up to date with a donation, so other pilgrims can follow in your footsteps.
