Cyprus stands for gorgeous beaches, Mediterranean food and a relaxed way of life. But what few people know is that this island also offers fragrant pine forests, peaks nearly 2,000 metres (6,562 ft) high and a very well-developed network of hiking trails. I’ve been able to call the island in the eastern Mediterranean my home for two years now and even after all that time of intensive exploring and hiking, Cyprus still has new routes in store for me.
In this Collection, I’ve compiled my 11 favourite Tours, which are spread over the entire Republic of Cyprus, excluding the occupied region in the north. You can choose between coastal hikes alongside the Mediterranean Sea or summits in the Troodos Mountains. Since the coastal regions are topographically and climatically very different from the mountainous interior, I recommend that you check the weather and temperatures before each Tour. While the sun is shining at the sea, it can be raining or at least be significantly colder in the Troodos Mountains.
The best time to hike Cyprus is definitely spring (March to May) and autumn (October to December). In the summer months, you'll be fried like a piece of halloumi on the grill. The months of March and April are particularly colourful, when thousands of flowers and the magnificent almond trees are in bloom. Then Cyprus turns into a Garden of Eden.
Whatever time of year you choose to explore Cyprus on foot, be sure to bring enough sunscreen and drinking water. There are no cafes along most of the Tours, but there are many lovely rest areas and benches for picnics. The network of paths is well developed and you’ll find trail markings, information boards about the flora and overview maps.
The best thing about an island? The next beach is never far away. That's why you should pack your swimsuit for every hike, so that you can jump into the crystal clear sea after the Tour. The individual starting points of the Tours can be reached either by car or by public bus. For this I can recommend the app, Pame, and the following website: cyprusbybus.com/setups.aspx.
Countless hours of sunshine, a great variety of landscapes and the combination of sea and mountains make Cyprus an excellent hiking destination that’s still considered an insider secret. After each adventure, a quaint taverna with a debauched mezze (a variety of small dishes, similar to Spanish tapas) and excellent local wine awaits you.
The fragrant Paphos Forest and steep vineyards characterize this circular walk in the western Troodos Mountains. A promising chapel and a beautiful monastery await you as cultural highlights.
It starts in the picturesque town of Pano Panagia not far from the Kannaviou Reservoir. To the west of the church…
Cape Greco marks the southeasternmost point of Cyprus and is a popular destination for visitors. In order to experience the entire beauty of this area, this varied circular hike, which combines the most beautiful highlights on the Cape, is worthwhile. This hike is especially fantastic in spring (March…

The Artemis Trail brings you very close to heaven, because it runs around the highest peak in Cyprus, the Olympos. The seven-kilometer circular route is the little brother of the Atalante Trail, which also meanders around the 1,952-meter-high summit a little below.
The starting point is at a parking lot…
Aphrodite is omnipresent in Cyprus, which is considered to be her birthplace: whether as a rock, grotto or magnet for the refrigerator. This circular hiking trail, which is also dedicated to the Greek goddess of love and beauty, takes you to an impressive peak on the Akamas Peninsula in the far west…
At almost 15 kilometers, the Madari Trail is the longest tour in this collection and is located on the border of the two districts Limassol and Nicosia. The round connects the towns of Spilia and Saranti in the Troodos Mountains - so they are both the starting point of the Madari Trail. The paths are…
This circular hike takes you to a wonderful panoramic mountain near Larnaka. There is a beautiful monastery at the top, but only men can visit it. Since I live in this area myself, I have already done this tour in different variations and can highly recommend it at sunrise.
When you exit the B1, you pass…
If you've had enough of the sea and still don't want to do without the element of water, then this short tour around the Xyliatos reservoir is just right for you. In the district of Nicosia in the foothills of the Troodos Mountains, this blue shimmering body of water lies in the forest and is especially…
Forest bathing is the name of the game on this circular hike: east of Pano Platres, you pass fragrant pines and photogenic strawberry trees to the summit of the Pouziaris - which means “guts”. But don't worry, these will only be used at a final stop in one of the taverns.
The starting point is at the…
Probably the most impressive cliff in Cyprus is located below the town of Pissouri, halfway between Limassol and Paphos: the white rock faces rise several hundred meters here at Cape Aspro and shine against the turquoise of the sea. Surefootedness and good footwear are required for the inspection.
Pissouri…
This is an easy and flat loop for a relaxing walk outside of Larnaka, which is very nice especially at sunrise. From Larnaka you can reach the starting point at the lighthouse, for example by bus 429.
From the small lighthouse at Cape Kiti you walk along the promenade above Faros beach. Several stairs…
In the eastern foothills of the Troodos Mountains lies a quaint village called Vavatsinia. Here you will discover traditional Cyprus with narrow streets and stone houses. The surrounding forest, right on the border between the districts of Larnaka and Nicosia, is ideal for relaxing hiking.
It starts in…
