The variety found on Tenerife is incredible. Black rocky landscapes meet dense pine forests and flowering meadows – Tenerife is incredibly versatile. The largest of the Canary Islands, Tenerife is volcanic. Mount Teide, the third largest volcano on Earth, towers at its centre. Despite the island's small size, it’s myriad climate zones lead to diverse landscapes. You find excellent trails and hiking paths, some of which date back to the time of the Guanches, the indigenous people of Tenerife. These trails offer you endless possibilities to explore the island.

I decided to take a break from the German winter with my friend. On the way, we met numerous other adventurers as we travelled around the island. In total, I spent almost half a year on Tenerife and look back on the time with gratitude. In this Collection, I show you my personal favourite hikes, some of which I’ve optimised for you so that you don’t encounter impassable paths or wait in vain for the bus. Almost all of the hikes are located on the northern side of the island. Here, in contrast to the south, rich vegetation abounds and the tourist hoards are conspicuously absent

Thanks to its diversity, the island offers the perfect conditions for long-term stays and is not just a paradise for retirees. In addition to countless hikes, you can go climbing, surfing, paragliding, diving and sailing here. There really are no limits to the outdoor fun you can enjoy on the island. There is even a university in La Laguna, should you want to plan a semester abroad here.

From the town of Los Cristianos, you can take the ferry to La Gomera, a neighbouring island, in less than an hour. I've also included my two favorite hikes from La Gomera in the Collection too. Each Canary Island has its own character and special features – discover it for yourself!

You can book a range of private accommodation online, places in the heart of authentic villages and small towns where you can quickly feel at home. You can also find shared apartments on the idealista booking platform. People on the Canary Islands are open-hearted, humorous and friendly, while the cuisine is delicious – you will quickly fall in love with the island. I wish you a lot of fun and look forward to your feedback.

With my partner in crime, I am walking through our new home and we discover a park that is so beautiful that we cannot stop being amazed. After a cozy coffee with a view, we continue walking and come to a narrow hiking path.

The panorama is getting better and better and we don't even bother to close

This round offers a lot of variety and spectacular views of La Gomera. At the beginning of the route, a tunnel is currently being built (as of March 2021) and the original hiking trail is not accessible. We fought our way up the steep forest hill cross-country - in this tour I'll show you an alternative

From all over Tenerife, this loop is my undisputed favorite hike. The view, the goats, the seclusion of Roque Bermejo and the hospitality - no wonder we've been there twice.

It starts in Chamorga, the last village that can be reached by road and is approached by the Guagua. Make sure you take enough

We have not come back so comfortably on any other hike: by water taxi. You can make a reservation at nauticanivaria.com. The actual hike is therefore only six kilometers long, so walking back is also possible. With the sometimes steep inclines, the short hike is tough.

We start in Igueste, a village

You have probably heard of the standard Masca tour. The gorge has only recently been open to visitors again and there are precise requirements: reservation, hiking boots up to the ankle, helmet. If you want to do this tour, you can find all the information here: caminobarrancodemasca.com.

On this round tour, Tenerife shows once again what contrasts it has in store. For almost eight kilometers it leads through stretches of landscape that couldn't be more different.

It starts together with three adventurers. We were lucky and were welcomed with a bright sun - in this area it can also be

The absolute premium round of La Gomera: The highest point on the island awaits you with a panoramic view of the neighboring islands, the sacred table mountain of the Guanches, a sea of flowers and dreamy valley views with a tropical palm flair.

The hype about the magic forest of La Gomera is without question justified. Especially when the weather is cloudy, the tour through the forest is the perfect activity. The route from Las Hayas to Vallehermoso is a slightly longer, beautiful and varied hike that I can only recommend to everyone.
