Welcome to Walking! This beautiful Collection is inspired by Welcome to Walking, a 32-page guide included with the January 2022 issue of Country Walking, Britain’s bestselling walking magazine. Produced in association with komoot, it’s the complete guide to getting started in the world of walking: where to go, what to look for, how to stay on track, what to wear – and why it’s the healthiest, happiest, simplest and free-est outdoor activity on the planet.

The hikes in this Collection range from 4.2 to 10.7 miles (6.8 –17.3 km) with some pancake-flat and others incorporating steep climbs to epic viewpoints. There’s no technical hiking required, making each Tour achievable whether you’re a beginner or have been rambling since you were a child. You can also shorten many of the routes if you’re pushed for time or linger too long in a seaside cafe.

Britain’s coastline is a true wonder, with sheer chalk cliffs, low-lying saltmarshes, jagged rocky islets and hidden harbours. We’ve chosen these hikes to reveal some iconic features like the Old Harry Rocks and the Point of Stoer, as well as lesser-known sites, such as the Bradwell Shell Bank and Angelsey’s gorgeous Llanddwyn Island.

No matter what time of year you hike, these Tours are utterly stunning with each season bringing a new personality to the landscape. In winter, the coast becomes alive with crashing waves, offshore fog banks and flocks of overwintering birds. In summer, the sun brings warmth, flowers and ice cream vans. In spring and autumn, every day is different with fresh blossoms, fantastic clouds and deepening colours.

Fill up your thermos, grab your camera and choose the coastal haven you want to visit first. You won’t be disappointed!

On Norfolk’s north east coast lies a stunning expanse of marshland where it seems as though the sea and the land can’t quite agree on where one ends and the other begins. Cley’s salt marshes are a rich habitat for birds such as avocet, spoonbill and marsh harrier and there are plenty of feathery friends to spot at every time …

At the coastal extent of the North York Moors National Park, Robin Hood’s Bay is both a village and a North Sea bay. At 10.7 miles (17.3 km), this is a solid day hike but it’s almost entirely flat, with just the ascent of North Berwick Law to challenge the thighs.
